My ISP recently installed the new version, and now all of the apostrophes have disappeared, in thread titles and posts, replaced every time by a small square. Can you help me get the good old apostrophes back?

What do you mean by "My ISP recently installed the new version" ?! A new version of what?

I had been using 7.9 since 2004. I purchased 9.56, the tech man at my ISP installed it to replace and upgrade 7.9.

You need to edit in notepad the file includes/setup_options_inc.asp and change the page encoding from UTF-8 to the version 7 default encoding of iso-8859-1

question (since IIRC i replied with the suggestion to add the @Codepage=65001 directive if UTF-8 is not displayed properly)
what's wrong with this approach for 9.56? - works like a charm for IIS6 /W2K3 or higher
curious, christian

The problem that Don was having was that he was using an older version which uses the page encoding iso-8859-1where as version 8 and 9 uses UTF-8.
This is set in the includes/setup_options_inc.asp file, and by changing it back to iso-8859-1 will fix the issue he was having with characters not being displayed correctly.
