Hi all

I am in the process of moving web hosts.

I used Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and the import data wizard to migrate my SQL database from Jodohost to Fasthosts.

The migration reported no errors, and when I change the connection to the Fasthosts SQL server it appears to work (I can unlock the forum for example), however when I try and make a test post I get the following error message

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while writing to the database.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_save_new_topic_data
File Name:- new_post.asp

Error details:-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Topic_ID', table 'balearic_forum.dbo.tblTopic'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.

I would really appreciate any advice. Please be gentle, I'm learning on the fly with this stuff, I'm far from a website developer.

Thank you.

The import/export tools in SQL Server Manager will not work as they don't export the whole database schema and drop many things like the increment fields and default values, so is totally no good for doing this.

The way you need to move the database is to create a backup of the database (a .bak file) then restore it on your new hosts system. Unfortunately Fasthosts don't give you a facility to restore a database backup on their systems so you maybe out of luck moving to them for hosting.

Another option is moving your forum hosting to our own servers as we also have a migration service so can do the migration for you, upgrade your forum to the latest release, and go through and check and fix your database at the same time. All our hosting packages include the Premium Edition of web wiz forums and you also get free upgrades. For more information see our http://www.webwiz.net" rel="nofollow - Web Hosting Pages .

Cheers Bruce

I have had a look at your packages and have signed up with one!

Word of warning to the rest of you... I had a though time cancelling with Fasthosts even though I was only 1 day into the cooling off period and there are loads of complaints on the internet that say similar. A little tip if you ever find yourself in that position, I phoned back, said I didn't understand the technical nature of the problem (that bit is pretty honest :-) ) and that somebody else was designing my website, they cancelled my account. Only took 5 people and 45 minutes on the phone. LOL

Ummmm... well that's another reason why I'm with Bruce too Thumbs Up
You will find that the way he does business is much more pleasurable and less problematic, and he has (in my opinion) been a good and reliable host to go with
