Hi,

In the WWF Admin Control Panel it is said the IP blocking blocks certain functionality of WWF. Can someone tell me what is blocked and what not.

I did a little test. An IP blocked user can still visit the forum and even look at all userprofiles. Why is this.
It would be my preference an IP blocked user can do nothing at all! And only get one message screen with a link to mail the forum administrator in case the blocking was by accident or something.

The reason I ask this. I have an unregistrered IP adress coming to the forum all day. According to the activity screen it's all day on the forum index page. It turns out this IP is a kind of spam scamming bot. I wanted it blocked and found out the IP blocking function of WWF doesn't work here.

The IP blocking is used for blocking members you no longer want. they then have the same permissions as a Guest browsing the forum except they also can not post in those places a guest can.

For the level of blocking that you want you should do it at IIS or firewall level.

Thanks.

An IP blocked user still can look at the user profiles. A Guest can not do this.

Interesting as that's one spot you would want blocked above many others............. a guest simply isn't registered where as a blocked person is blocked for a reason, and among those could be they are not nice folks so you don't want them seeing such things.

The profiles are supposed to be blocked to those with blacklisted IP's which is why it displays an error message near the top.

However and bug in the code means that it continues and shows the profile anyway.

This has now been fixed for the next release.
