Hello,
I am in the process of upgrading my forum from 8.x to 9.x. I have created a backup of my current database and moved it to a new server. I have also downloaded the latest forum files and uploaded to web directory and also changed the database_settings.asp file with the right settings.
According to the documentation (http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/sql_server_upgrade.asp) I should get an installation screen when I go to www.domain.com/forum. However, I get the following error:
Server Error in Forum Application
An error initialising Global Variables from database.
Please contact the forum administrator.
Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_getForumConfigurationData()_get_global_variables
File Name:- global_variables_inc.asp
Error details:-
ADODB.Recordset
Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

You do not edit the database_settings.asp file manually.
Upload the original unmodified database_settings.asp file and then the setup/upgrade wizard will run which will write the correct settings to this file for you as well as making the database updates at the same time.

Btw, previously my prefix was more than 10chars length and could not enter it in the current form. (Got it solved though using Firebug).
Also, could you please tell the link I need to follow for the Lifetime License Upgrade Page? It should have appeared in the admin area when applying the code (according to this http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/lifetime_update_protection.asp) but I just get "
The license is invalid or for a prior version.
"
One more thing, hile trying to access a forum I get the following error:
Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occurred while executing SQL query on database.
Please contact the forum administrator.
Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_get_topics_data
File Name:- forum_topics.asp
Error details:-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
'ROW_NUMBER' is not a recognized function name.

You will need to contact sales regarding licensing.
The error you have is because you selected SQL Server 2005/2008 when installing the software and you must be using SQL Server 2000.
You should install the software again but this time as the database is upgraded choose a 9.x upgrade and select SQL Server 2000 as the database backend.
