Hi,

Is it possible to send a bulk email to certain members within my forum?

For example, send an email to anyone who has never posted on the forums?

If so, can this be done using the tools I'd have or does this need to be done with some sort of bulk emailing software?

Many thanks,
Steve

There are strict laws on who you can send bulk email to. You could not just send bulk email to people who never posted, not unless you wanted to be on the wrong side of the law that is.

Under many countries including the UK Communications Act you can only send bulk email to people who have subscribed to receiving such communication from you, just because they have joined your forum doesn't mean you can send them bulk email. You also have to give people a way to unsubscribe and if you are a company you also need to include the company name and address within the email.

The http://www.WebWizNewsPad.com" rel="nofollow - Web Wiz NewsPad software can integrate with Web Wiz Forums to send eNewsletters to your forum members, but only those members who have  checked a box in their forum profile to receive such communication from you. The sofwtare also handles unsubscribing.

Unfortunately at present there is not an option to send emails to those who have not posted, but you can select which forum groups, so if you selected the newbie group then these people would either have not posted or not posted very often. However, as I mentioned previously it will only send to those that have explicitly given permission to receive such communication from you.

Many thanks Bruce, I hadn't even considered the legalities of such a thing.

I'll have a look into the link you put up but naturally, that would only work going forwards with new members :-)

Thanks for the reply,
Steve

I've used News Pad in conjunction with ladder groups within WWF to be able to email users who have not posted.  I've created a "Beach Bum" ladder group with a minimum number of posts of 0.  Then I have a "Landlubber" ladder group with a minimum number of posts of 1.  Therefore, as soon as they make a single post, they've already moved up a ladder group.  Until then, they remain in my lurkers group where I can configure News Pad to send an email only to the newsletter subscribers within this group.

It's my policy to delete users who fail to post within two weeks of registering, but I use the newsletter to give the lurkers one last chance before their account is deleted.  I only wish more users would select to receive the newsletter so they'd actually receive the reminder!
