I have a problem! When people go on our site which ask for just their email address and name to sign up for the newsletter. Then at the bottom of the email when they click to unsubscribe it first ask them for username and password to get into the account to unsubscribe and they never even entered a password in the first place so that have to say they forgot the password to get one sent to them. Is there any way we can get around this? And does anyone know what the default password is that is automatically given to everyone the first time when they just give there name and email? Or is it not the same for everyone?

Mainly just need to somehow get around having to request a lost password and somehow show them what there password is automatically if it is the same for everyone. Please help! Need this fixed ASAP.

I am guessing that you imported members into NewsPad if they did not signup themselves and know what their password is.

When importing members if you selected to also import their password then their password should be the same as that imported. If a password was not available during the import then a password would have been created for the user using a random combination of letters.

If the same password was used for all user then anyone could login as anyone else and deleted the users subscriptions.

Some where imported and others have registered since on the website for the newsletter and entered in just their name and email and now when trying to unsubscribe by clicking the link at bottom of their email it brings up page asking for their password since it already has their correct email filled since it realizes who they are from the unsubscribe link they clicked in the email they received. Is it possible to have the password to be filled in already like the email is and they just click submit and login and unsubscribe from the newsletter? Thanks!

Passwords are 160bit one-way encrypted so that hackers can not get the users passwords from the database and unsubscribe everyone in your list. Which makes it impossible to view or recover passwords.

When your members subscribe to your NewsPad they are asked to give their own password. If they forget this passwowrd they can use the forgotten password form to generate a new password which is emailed to them.

So many other big sites out there do not require you to enter in a password to unsubscribe from mailing list so seems that this is a little to protective of a function to add on here.

I want this function completely turned off or removed or at least have it so everyone is given the same password so can show it on the login page so they can easily unsubscribe without having to request lost password since we are not going to be asking them for a password when they sign up for a newsletter.

Do you know of any simple ways to turn off requiring a password or have it so everyone is given the same password without a random one being given? Thanks again!

Sorry there is not a way to turn off the password.

However, there are plans to add into version 2 an option for the admin to turn off the password requirement when unsubscribing and using some unique 32 bit code within the unsubscribe link instead so that it makes it simpler to unsubscribe while at the same time retaining a level of protection to prevent the entire list from being wiped out by a malicious user.

I, for one would love to see this feature added.

Bruce, as I use NewsPad very successfully for all my Forum members I would love to know what plans you have for v2.0 (I am sure I could add some suggestions). A short list or update of what is planned would be great?

I can fully understand that this version is a way off since v10 of WWF will take precedence!
