Hello all,

Ok I need some help on an major upgrade, I recently took over as web administrator for a car club and it is running wwf 7.9 and I take it they paid for their version years ago. My question is if I upgrade to the new version will my 7.9 database work with the new 9.64 ver, From what I know all the member info and all the post and PM's are stored in the database, correct? Another thing is I take it that all the stuff like the calendar and the number of PM's all stay the same.

Also was ASPChat integration into the form, will the old code for that work or is there a new one code for that to work with 9.64. I tried to look on http://www.aspchatnow.com/" rel="nofollow - aspchatnow.com/  but is pending renewal an deletion.

I am a complete noob to this and do not want to screw of the site trying to upgrade it, Would any one happen to have a old 7.9 so I can test and try to do this. Thanks for any help.

Kevin

Upgrading is very simple as there is a setup/install wizard that upgrades the database for you, all you need to do is remove the old files for the forum and replace them with the new ones, keeping your old database and if you allow members to upload pictures keeping the old upload folder.

The page below has documentation on upgrading which explains it more fully:-

AspChatNow is available from the link below:-

Not if you are using one of the free editions.

However, if you want to use one of the paid editions then you would need to contact sales and accounts to findout if you have a license and what type:-

As Bruce has pointed out in his post above you need to contact sales who will be able to answer the question as they will have a record of when this version was purchased. You need to http://www.webwiz.net/contact/contact_sales.asp" rel="nofollow - CONTACT SALES who will be able to assist you. Thumbs Up

Hello,

This post has been helpful.  I have version 7.9 and will be upgrading to the latest Web Wiz Forums.  I have a couple questions...

- my current version is running under MS Access. Is it possible to convert it to MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server?   My web host is suggesting it's time to move my forum over to a more stable database format.

- is one better than another?  MySQL vs. Microsoft SQL Server.  I would need to upgrade my hosting plan if I go with Microsoft SQL Server.

- I only own MS Access - will I need to purchase another program in order to view database records, or does MS Access have a feature to convert to MySQL or Microsoft SQL data?

Thank you in advance for your help...as you can see I have to get up to speed on all of this, but am excited about the great features my forum will have once I upgrade!!

You would need to go from Access to SQL Server as they both have almost the same schema were as mySQL (which is not as good as SQL Server) has a very different schema.

MS Access has a built in upsize wizard which can upsize your database to SQL Server. You should give this ago at upsizing the database.

However, we do allot of these Access to SQL Server Migrations as part of our Migration service when people move their Web Wiz Forums hosting to us and from experience I can tell you that it often takes 30 minutes to 6 hours to do, and thats for engineers who know the database inside out.

You may want to have a look at transferring your forum hosting to us and have us upsize the database for you to SQL Server. The prices are very competitive and you may find it cheaper than paying for a SQL Server database from your present host.

More information is on the page below:-

The Premium Brand Free Edition is included and upgrades are also done for you for free.
