One of the main problems I'm facing when moderating for a forum running web wiz is dealing with spammers on a daily basis.
They spam I ban, they spam again I "Block poster's IP" and even their network if I see a IP pattern.
Some get sneaky and use proxies to evade IP bans and continue to spam the forum but it's usually the same links.
Since web wiz supports IP ban lists, would it be possible to have a web site / phrase black list so that spam is either rejected at the time of posting or requires moderator approval??

Something which is currently planed for version 10 is to have a spam filter. This will be like the bad word filter where you can enter words, domains, etc. that you don't want in posts. If these words appear in posts you can then decide if you want the post rejected or hidden till approved.

In the meantime have a look at the page below on ways to combat spam from the tools already available, which work very well at preventing most spam:-

Thanks for the info Bruce I had a look at the spam prevention page and I have more suggestions for Web Wiz.
The forum I moderate already requires email activation, the problem is that the spam comes from registered users of free webmail accounts i.e. hotmail, gmail and yahoo.
The annoying thing about these accounts are they're anonymous, quick and easy to create which kind of defeats the whole purpose of email activation.
While I understand there is an option for admin activation of accounts it would be more practical if approvals only applies to certain email addresses to avoid having to approve everyone.
Alternately it would be nice if admins or moderators could just simply add email patterns to a blacklist to prevent further registration of accounts.

There is an email blacklist already in the admin area called 'Email Address Banning'.

If you enter *@hotmail.com it would not allow you to signup to your forum with a hotmail.com address, you can do the same for *@yahoo.com, *@gmail.com, etc. as well as individual email address.

It looks like the Email Address Banning Tool was not also mentioned in the Spam Prevention Document, which has now been updated to include information on how to use this tool to prevent spammers from registering to use your forums:-
