We are on version 9.56 and are using SQL backend. I never really have to do any administration, but maybe once a year, so I go through this every time we need to do something basic like add a new Discussion. I promise I will document this time!
Anyhow, Group_ID=1 for my username. However, when I click on the Admin button and go to the Control Panel Login, I cannot log in.
I have also searched the DB for the author_id=1, and I have reset the password and the salt field back to the default. My issue is that I have no idea how to log as that admin user. We are passing our windows credentials to the forum, so I am not sure how I would log in as that admin user.
So I guess I sort of have two issues. One, I cannot login with my ID to the admin page, and Two, I don't know how to login as the system designated admin.
Thanks,
James

If you are using Windows Authentication then you would need to login using the built in admin account to the admin.asp page.
Point your browser at the admin.asp page in your forum.

When I go directly to the admin.asp page, it is putting my windows username in the field, and I cannot change the username. I must be missing something.

As I recall this issue was fixed some time ago. Try updating to the latest release.
