I have a problem with subscription e-mails not being sent.

E-mail setup is correct (test works), Email Notify is enabled and new user registration e-mails are sent OK.

But when a new post is made to any forum, nothing is sent to the users who are subscribed.

Messages are not being blocked by the mail server (local on the same machine as the forum), the server logs show no attempt by the forum to send anything.

Running v9.67

Anyone any clues as to where to start looking?

Jim

The forum will not send an email notification about your own posts, as you should know you have created a post, so to test you need to subscribe to email notifications under one account, then logout and login under a different account to post a reply to test this feature.

If you are subscribed to email notifications then an email is sent telling you that a post or reply has been made in that forum or topic, and there maybe other replies.  You will not get another email notification for that forum or topic until you revisit the board.

I never said it was failing to send to me (I know it doesn't).

Quote nothing is sent to the users who are subscribed

It's failing to send to ANY user, irrespective of whether they have revisited or not.

So you are saying that you are receiving email notifications OK, but others are not?

There are no issues within Web Wiz Forums with the email notification system, so you should look at your email settings and make sure that your mail server can send to remote mailboxes.

No, please read what I originally said.

Quote E-mail setup is correct (test works), Email Notify is enabled and new user registration e-mails are sent OK.

But when a new post is made to any forum, nothing is sent to the users who are subscribed.

It's the subscribed thread notification that's not working, everything else is fine.

Again, from my original post:

Quote Messages are not being blocked by the mail server (local on the same machine as the forum), the server logs show no attempt by the forum to send anything.

The forum is making no attempt to send.

One of the threads has 200+ subscribers, but nothing is being sent.

The email notification system in Web Wiz Forums works fine so either your email tests are not taking into consideration what I have previously posted about how they work, or your email settings are in correct.

If your topic with 200 subscribers has been posted in since any of these subscribers have visited then no email notifications will be sent, as they will already have had one notification that a reply has been made. Your members need to revisit the forum in order to receive anymore notifications for that topic.

The notification email system takes the date of the previous post in that topic, if it is newer than the last visit date then no post notification is sent.

However, if the previous post is older than the members last visit then they are sent an email notification saying a reply has been made in the topic and there maybe more. They will not receive anymore notifications till they visit the forum and their last visit date is updated.

This is the order:-

1pm Member 'A' visits forum they subscribe to a topic
2pm Member 'B' replies in the subscribed topic and Member 'A' gets a reply notification
3pm Member 'C' replies in the subscribed topic and Member 'A' does not receive a reply notification as they have had one previously when Member 'B' replied
4pm Member 'A' returns to the board and their last visit date is updated
5pm Member 'D' replies in the subscribed topic and Member 'A' gets a reply notification as they have visited the baord since the last post was made in the topic

I am having the same issue on ver 9.69.

I subscribe to a topic, then i log out and log back in as a different user and make a new post in that topic (as a different user), i never get an email.  the email tests work fine but the "real" emails don't.  I have looked at my email server logs and they never even show the attempt being made.  Please help I can't go live with this until the email is working.

thanks
jim

Have you migrated the database from Access to mySQL?

No, clean install for SQL 2000 on a Win 2003 R2 server.  Also it is actually doing it on two different servers (same OS) and two different websites.  Both have the same issues.  I am unsing ASPEmail on both.

Make sure that both servers have the correct time and set to the same time zone.

Dates and times are set very odd in SQL 2000 which did not have support for ISO dates. It sounds like this maybe the issue.

I would suggest using a newer version of SQL Server as SQL Server 2000 is very long in the tooth now and doesn't support many important features of Web Wiz Forums and support for this version of SQL Server will be dropped for version 10.

Ok, I bought SQL 2008 but I havn't updated that machine with it yet.  I guess I will.  but before I do is there anything I need to do to enable the SQL 2008 features for web wiz that will not affect my configs and/or data?

Can you please tell me the upgrade steps/proceedures for the forums?

Thanks
Jim

Just follow the upgrade documentation as if you were upgrading to the new version:-

http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/sql_server_upgrade.asp" rel="nofollow - http://www.webwiz.net/webwizforums/kb/sql_server_upgrade.asp

Web Wiz Forums will run great in SQL Server 2008 R2 Free Express Edition. The limitations in the Express version of SQL Server would not affect the how the forum would run.
