Hi, I am in the process of moving our site to a new hosting company. Our forums are very busy, the database of messages is 244MB and we do about 1GB per day in bandwidth. I have set up the latest version of WebWizForums on the new host and it is working great on a new database. So everything is set up correctly. However, we are having problems connecting to the large database of messages.
The previous company zipped the database and it was downloaded to the new company. When the new company extracts the zipped file, they say they get the 244MB file. However, then they have problems:

However, the original hosting company state that the file is not corrupt because they have extracted it with no problems. We have also made a second copy and the same problems exist.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong?? I definitely don't wish to start afresh on a new database as I can't ask 3000 members to start again! Any clues are much appreciated. Thanks.

| It's MySQL. It's working fine on the old hosting company, but when it's zipped and uploaded to the new company's server and extracted... they say it is corrupt. My next step is to ask if they can download the entire 244MB (without compacting it) and dump it in the correct folder. No zipping or unzipping, see if that works. |

I would suggest having a go at migrating the database yourself as long as both new and old host allow remote connections to your database. The tool I often use for migrating mySQL databases is SqlYOG which has tools to allow you to migrate data between two different mySQL databases. Thanks Bruce, very helpful. I set up SQLyog and successfully connected to the new server, but the administrator on the old server would not give me the IP address :(
Fortunately, the administrator pushed the data into the new databse himself and managed to transfer most (~90%) of the posts. It kept bailing out at the same point each time and he thought there may be a corrupted post or something, which may also have caused the problems in the straight copy we were doing. Anyway, it's up and running now and much faster (smiles all round).
However, smiles turned to frowns when the forums kept going down because of database connection issues.

Then yesterday it was down again with the same issue. He fixed it by further increasing the number of connections...
Apologize for the delay. I have increased the MySQL max_connection to 2,000 connection.
And please add your script to close the MySQL database connection everytime it is not used anymore. Thanks. My questions are: What is the correct number of connections for an active forum? Secondly, does the script close the database correctly? Any thoughts on how I can prevent it going down so often? Thanks in advance.
