hello all,

i upgraded my access database from webwiz forum 7 to sql 2008.
i then try to upgrade from web wiz forum 7 to 9 but when it asks me the databases connection details, it doesn't accept my credential for the database.
i even tried creating a new user and assigned him full control over the database but it still doesn't accept the credentila, it says:
Error details:-
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Login failed for user 'wwforum'.

thank you all for your help

regards,

The error means that the connections details you are are incorrect.

Make sure that the SQL Server is installed in mixed mode and allows TCP/IP connections.

If you are using SQL Server Express TCP/IP connections are turned off by default even if you install in mixed mode and need to be enabled.

SQL Server Express is often installed with a name pipe so you would use something like  localhost\SQLEXPRESS as the host name.

SQL Server is a very complex beast and for further help it maybe worth buying a book on it, or asking questions on a wesite dedcated to SQL Server.

Thank you webwiz bruce,
the sql server is installed in mixed mode and it allows tcp/ip connection. also, the sql server 2008 (full blown version, not the express one..) is on the same server as the forum.
could it be that the conversion from access db to sql did not work propely? i used SMA as access 2007 have some problem uprising to sql server...

Although there are issues that will need to be fixed when using SMA, the problem that you have here is that your login to your wwforum has failed.

This error means that the database server either can not be logged in to, or the login credentials that you have given have been rejected.

Connections from web wiz forums to the database need to use an SQL Server login to the database and not a trusted connection. Make sure you have created a user in SQL Server that has DBO permissions over the database and use that for your login credentials to the database.
