Need to find/hire help with upgrade, but not sure where to post such a thing if there's even a place in the forums here with Bruce and Company. Don't want to violate any of his support forum rules, but this isn't a clean simply copy the files in upgrade due to some minor tweaking of colors, additions of smilies, and a paypal button so I need to "look for hired help" somewhere - where else but a place where forum EXPERTS hang out! |

Wa-hoo - we're on the latest code - at least until Bruce comes up with better. I noted one issue, and I THINK it's my computer, as my OTHER computers don't do this - on my Vista machine with Firefox, it kept logging me out when I'd say send a PM, then go back to the main forum page, or I'd wait a bit and refresh, or be at the main page for 15 minutes then click the latest topics button, and I'd be logged out. None of the other computers or browsers did this. So far today, it's not doing this. I also need to ask Bruce how our server load is now with the new forum, the way it pings and keeps sessions and the addition of our banner management software - if we're still ok on resources. That was a lot of change in a couple days time. All went well and smoothly. It would seem to me that Bruce not only takes great care and pains in his software design and code, security and all, but he also seems to design all this and take at least as much time on the upgrade process. I've never seen software any easier to upgrade. I'd bet for every change in the forum code, he takes that much time in making sure others can upgrade without breaking. Maybe it might be if you are using the Quick Login, as I generally use the main login page, where it gives you the options Keep me logged in - requires cookies Log outs are normally cookie related issues as I'm pretty certain that none of the changes on the actual software would cause this. I've always used the "quick login" I guess since day one......... I"m not noting it logging me out today - in fact, the opposite. All day it's said last time was yesterday, and all posts since then are being treated as unready by me. Did you see the note from another user, I think I'm seeing the same thing. You click to list all the new posts since last visit, spend 30 minutes reading them, then a new post comes in, and you click unread or new again, and suddenly, you are back at the beginning, they are all marked new. ------------- BillD http://theamcpages.com http://theamcforum.com |

As you have recently upgraded you should clearout all cookies set by the forum to ensure that nothing is left. Upgrade good, works fine on PCs, but now a number of phone users are complaining that they can no longer post. Must be a CSS or layout deal as they used to be able to post from mobile phones and blackberries....... ------------- BillD http://theamcpages.com http://theamcforum.com |

I use iOS on iphone and iPad - I'll paly with it. There >was at time a direct link to a mobile version of the site >though? Oddly enough I can post from my phone, but not >the iPad. The above is from one mobile user, another says his blackberry doesn't work. All of this since the upgrade last week. I'm with you - my phone allows me to talk, and dial, but that's about it, and that's plenty! IPads use a cut down version of Safari, one of the bits cut out of Safari is it's Rich Text Editing API. is there a way to detect it and have it disabled, otherwise many of these folks use a PC, too.... And it DID work prior to the upgrade, None of the folks complaining have bought new devices or changed anything. They worked a couple weeks ago, now with the upgrade, they no longer work. Well, I'm getting message after message - it seems no one with a mobile device can use the forum - most can't even use the non-posting stuff. It's as if the new code totally freezes some of them. A few it's only "can't post" but it seems most can't even navigate through the forum or use other features UNrelated to the WSYIWYG editor. ------------- BillD http://theamcpages.com http://theamcforum.com |

There should be no issues with mobile devices. The 9.x upgrade to the latest version you have made makes very little change to the front end and so should not affected mobile devices. The only known issue is that with some mobile devices you need to disable the WYWIWYG Editor.
