OK, to keep from shadowing the original poster in another thread.......
I asked about our banner software and got this reply - does this make sense, is it even possible?

We added their software just right after the upgrade, so the timing makes sense. It's hard to see, however, how a simple ASP.NET software that does only so much work is needing so much memory...

No, you always need the amount of memory an application requires. If you
set the IIS application pool to limit the memory it just forces IIS to
recycle everytime the memory limit is reached and that is what kills the
sessions.

Just make sure Ban Man Pro is in its own application pool separate from the
rest of your site. That way if the Ban Man Pro app pool recycles it will
not affect the sessions in the rest of your site.

The ASP.NET ad banner software that you have on the top of your forum might not be doing allot but as it is included in every page of your Classic ASP website it will still consume memory for each and every user that connects to your website/forum.

For each connection to your Classic ASP website/forum around 10-20KB of memory is used for that user if you have a second ASP.NET application included in every page then this amount of memory is doubled if not more as ASP.NET websites tend to consume more memory per user than Classic ASP websites.

So every time someone visits your Classic ASP website an Classic ASP session is created using memory, as you also include the ASP.NET Ad Banner software on each page a second ASP.NET sessions is also created using memory, thus doubling up the memory required to run your website.

If you have any specific hosting requirements please create a support ticket so that they can be discussed.

Just as a thought I would suggest using Google Ads in your forum instead as these are the only type of ads that make any money on forums.

What you tend to find is that ads in forums get allot of hits but very few click troughs, something like 0.02%. Those that do are often regular members that often click on the ads simply to support the forum and do not buy anything. For this reason forum ads tend to attract very few advertisers.

For example tried ads on a very busy forum for 12 months and got zero sales, yet by putting Google Ads on the very same forum the Google Ads where getting between $30 to $50 per day. This is on a Web Wiz Forums that has around 150-200 active users.

By switching to Google Ads you would also lower the memory requirements for your website thus preventing the recycle problem that you are having.

Well, I need to look into this............
Currently, folks would paypal us $XX for a month worth of ad. The software rotates it in, and fully tracks clicks, views/impressions, and sends out an email with the stats.
There are other packages that use only ASP to so similar.
Google sort of scares me as they are a bit, well, hard to trust........ so I'd need to see that google ads would do the same thing this software does and give us FULL CONTROL and full proceeds from any ad sales. My guess is google gets a cut........and has more control than we'd like.
Something I'll have to look into.
I agree that this ASP.NET app is a big of a resource hog at present. VERY WELL supported and updated to keep out SQL bugs, but at what cost....

Google ads give you a percentage of sales - not the full amount you may be getting now. Maybe there might be a viable alternative you could use such as static ads at an agreed cost for so many days, or month rotation. These could easily be placed in a left, or right hand bar that runs down the side of the forum page itself
