I currently have my current website, but I am thinking of changing it to a wordpress site after I have played with wordpress on another of my sites recently...

However I know it will take weeks to sort out the wordpress site before I am happy to go live with it...

So do I need to setup wordpress in a sub directory and work on it there and then how easy is it to move to my root directory to be my main site, or is there a better way to do this ?

If you setup WordPress on a sub domain it should just be a case of moving the files when you are ready to go live.

If you fill out a support ticket we will be able to give you a better idea as would be able to have a look at your account.

Thanks Bruce, stupid question but when I create a subdomain where do the files reside ?

I created a subdomain but expected it to create a directory under my wwwroot

On our system sub domains are true full websites with their own application pool (isolated process)  and their own files, rather than being a pointer to a folder within a website.

The sub domain will have it's own folder within your Hosting Space with it's own wwwroot directory. If you login to the root of your hosting space using FTP you should see the folder 'subdomain.yourdomain.com' with a wwwroot folder inside.
