Hi... I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but, when someone makes a post in a password protected forum, the post title and author show up in the Last Post column of the main forum list. This makes it so that everyone, even without access to that one forum, can see the title and poster.

I would think if a post was made in the password protected forum, then only those other members who have the password and have logged in would see anything from that forum and nothing would be displayed to anyone else.

Could I be missing a permissions setting somewhere or is this a bug?

Thanks!

It's not a bug, but even though the forum category may be password protected, stopping users who do not have that password from going in there, it should only show the last post made date, or today. You have to tick a box that says hide forum if no access. I tend to use forum permissions more than the password feature, but if you need more help, please ask

The forum has no idea who has the password or not, which is why it is showing.

As TWS said, it would be better to use the Forum Permissions to protect your forums.

If a forum has a password then only the time of the last post is displayed on the main forum index page, other information such as the title and who made the post is not displayed.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll start looking a bit more in the forum permissions themselves.

In reply to the last post, when I get to the main forum page that lists all of the forums and last post, etc, I do see the last post title, poster and date of the post in the password protected forum. If I click on the title, I then get the password login screen to continue.

As I said, I'll look into permissions a bit more.

Thanks!

You will see those details as you will be logged into the main forum as an administrator - that is why you will see the information. Permissions however are a far better way of doing things, with less passwords having to be remembered for certain forum topics/categories
