Subject: Question about server statistics

Looking at our site statistics i noticed a significant boost in visits (all .. page views, visits, bandwidth) that has started about two weeks ago (march 27 to be more precise). Numbers have gone up almost twice to what we used to have.
At first i thought it was just a temporary boost probably caused by some external links pointing to our site (it happens from time to time) but this isn't the case.

Since our site is not new and our content is very much the same and google analitics doesn't show any sign of increased activity  i wonder if there was any change in the way server stats are processed now (compared to what was used 2 weeks ago).

Thank you !

The SmarterStats software has not been updated recently.

The increased activity maybe due to bots such as Serach Engine Spiders. These would not show up in Google Analytics's as they use JavaScript to collect data and so only show data for browsers with JavaScript enabled.

The SmarterStats software analyses the log files for your website and so can analyses every connection to teh website, not just browsers with JavaScript enabled. You should be able to dig deeper in to SmarterStats to find where this traffic is coming from and see if it bots hitting your site.

Thanks Bruce.

I just wanted to be sure there isn't any "server-side" reason for the jump in numbers.
