In an attempt to limit the amount of spam on the forum I have been blocking certain IPs with a network rage of x.x.x.*
By checking "Active Users" I can see who is access which part of the forum and with what assigned IP address.
To my surprise I found that someone was registering yet another spambot account with the same IP, an IP range I had blocked the previous day.

Am I to understand that IP bans do not prevent new user accounts or am I seeing this user access the page that was being denied??

While on the subject of spam controls we're currently using WebWiz version 9.70 and I understand it has a "bad word filter" option.

Does this deny posts with banned words, and common email addresses i.e. hotmail being used for registration??

So far I've seen nothing for editing bad words so I'm guessing this isn't available to Moderators.

Having an IP Banned does stop that IP from resisting. If you are seeing a banned IP showing on the registration page in the Active Users list they will most properly being viewing an Access Denied message.

The bad word filter in the forum admin area allows swear words to be replaced with other words to prevent profanity being used within your forums. It does not block posts with those words, however the Spam filter in version 10 will allow you to block posts that contain words you want to block.

The Email Ban Tool in the admin area of the forum allows you to block certian email addresses and email domains, for example *@hotmail.com would block anyone with a Hotmail email addresses from registering.
