I know, i know .. this is probably something i should know but ... Can anyone explain me (or point me to an external resource) what a newly introduced Ladder groups serve for (and that we didn't have in previous forum versions). Any practical example on how to set this up? Ladder Groups are where you automatically move up ladder groups depending on how many posts/points you have in the forum. For example you may start as a new member in the Newbie group, then after 10 points you automatically move up to the Groupie Group. Where version 10 changes is that it allows you to create multiple ladder systems so you can have different ladder groups. Thanks Bruce; unfortunately, i still don't know what's the difference between what we had in the past from what we have now except that we have ladder thing. Ladder groups have been in Web Wiz Forums for around 10 years now, the only difference is you can now have more than one ladder group. If your members move up groups based on the number of posts they had made under version 9, then this will be the same in version 10. If not then you are not using ladder groups and I wouldn't worry about it. I assume you can then keep the ladder groups as is, but use other groups for "security" so that you can have it so that members need 30 points to post in a certain section/forum, but say need 10 to upload photos. No I think you are completely missing the point. In version 9 you have 1 ladder system which groups could be part of. Members who were in groups that are part of the ladder system can move up groups depending on point count. Version 10 is exactly the same as this and your present ladder system would be carried across. Where version 10 does differ is that you can create a second, third, forth, etc. ladder systems and place different groups in these new ladder systems. A member group can either not be a part of the ladder system, or if you place the group in a ladder system it can only be in one ladder system. | To me its like have a set of salary (wage) scales for (lets say) nurses and doctors. Nurses move up their scale and Doctors move up their separate scale (ladder). |

This is probably what caused some confusion among our members. Our admin/mod and two another groups are not part of Ladder System (In the admin area the group admin page shows these groups as " Non Ladder Group" as we have selected NO for "Group is part of a Ladder System"). That's correct and as expected. But then, on the member profile page we still have " Primary Ladder Group" stated for all admins/mods ... Looking at your profile here Bruce i see the ladder group is stating "none". So .. my question, did a miss an option in the admin area for this ? p.s. as a workaround i removed the ladder info from the member profile page (since we have one only) ------------- http://www.dyxum.com" rel="nofollow - dyxum.com |

I guess our need is more "security groups". I can't see a need for parallel ladder groups, where members could climb at different rates. In our case, we want members to be able to do something after xx posts, then something else after yy posts are achieved, or add a member to a second group so that they can have additional rights but this can't currently be done. You may have different groups of members that have different forum permissions but still want them to be part of a ladder group to encourage them to be active within the forums.
