Subject: Facebook "Like" Button question

I am trying to find how this new like button under posts is used.  I entered what I thought was my Fan Page ID in the control panel, which is what I believe goes there, but now, if I click on LIKE, it does a 1, and grays out the button - yet nothing is posted on the facebook page.  Am I missing something or have this misconfigured?

Shouldnt it post the thread on the facebook fan page and add a like to it?

If someone can give me a rundown, I would appreciate it.

If you click the Facebook Like button it will Like the page on the persons own personal Facebook profile which they can then share with their friends.

The Facebook Page ID sets the fb:page_id meta tag which allows facebook to connect the page to Facebook page which is then used for your Facebook page insights.

Well if you are not logged into facebook or anything, it does not seem to open a window or anything to alow them to login? Should it? It just likes, and then doesnt allow the user to enter anything.

The Facebook Like button is a standard Like button from Facebook and controlled by Facebook. For more information on how it works you should look at the Facebook Like button page:-

http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/

I have had a look myself and when you are logged out of Facebook it opened a popup window asking me to login to Facebook.

I think you maybe getting confused between Facebook Like and Facebook Share.

The Facebook Like button when clicked will add 1 to the number of Likes for the page that the Like Button is on. It will add this Like to your own Facebook profile which you can later choose to share on your wall by going to your facebook profile.

The Facebook Share button located by clicking the Share Button will allow you to share the link on your Facebook Wall.
