I was wondering if there are any plans on using Facebook or Twitter to register with WWF.

There are plans to integrate logins with Facebook and/or Open ID.

Do you have any particular dates or version of the forum we can expect this?

There is no set date at this time when this will be looked in to. If database changes are required to support this then it would not be included till version 11

From previous experience on integrating Facebook Connect into a site at least 1 extra database field is required for more reliable logins (a standard "email" and a "facebook" email, not everyone uses the same emails across both systems, or a field to store the users facebook id).

It also requires some kind of JSON class to be used (unless you hack together some code using Instr and Mid's), some Base64Decode functions and b64url_hmac_sha256 (google that and Javascript).

After all that extra code, it can be done :)

Bruce, If you are seriously thinking about adding this (please do!) and need help, send me a PM Wink
I spent a few days pulling my hair out until i figured out all the crap it takes.

If you have anything ready, please post it here.

We can use it in our own sites too.

By the way, it would also be great if the forum allowed users to link their FB profiles to the forum profiles.

Maybe even display a small icon linking to FB profile in the user information to the left of their posts.

You can already link to your Facebook profile from your forum profile. If you update your forum profile you can add in your Facebook username to link your profile.

I do not understand the idea of having facebook, twitter integrated.

Now if you think facebook and twitter is so good so maybe it's better to have such rather than spread out all visitors all over the internet?

Is not that the very idea of having a website that people visit it and stay there?

Ermm I just wonder .....

The idea of Facebook and Twitter integration is not to send people to Facebook or Twitter, but so that you click the Facebook 'Like' button on a Topic to tell or your friends about the Topic on Facebook, or click the Twitter 'Tweet' button to tell your followers on Twitter about the Topic.

Your visitors stay on your forum, but can tell all their peers about the Topic without ever leaving your forum.
