My users are complaining of randomly getting insufficient permissions when replying to a topic. It has happened to me on this site just now as well.

Thanks

Would need allot more details on this as there are lots of reasons why you would get insufficient permissions depending on what you are doing, when you get the error, the type of error, and your login status.

I get this one as well as do some members evidently. I am logged on as admin and reply to a topic but get a red banner saying insufficient privileges. I get the felling that it may be when someone makes a post while I am dithering with my reply? When I refresh I loose the text but can normally continue with no problem.

Quite often this can occur if the application pool for your forum recycles which would cause all the sessions in your forum to be dropped.

You should set the application pool to recycle once a day at a time when your forum is quite, such as 4am or whenever else your forum does not have much activity.

Thanks. My members are also experiencing this still. It happens randomly when starting a new topic, replying to a PM or a post. many different browsers and users.

How would i set the application pool for my forum.

Ok My Database has been changed so the application pool recycles at 00:15. my members are still getting the same random access denied message. It can happen to anyone, on any browser, and on posting a new topic, replying to a topic, or a PM. It is getting frustrating now.

Are looking in to the way session work for the next release.

I suspect the issue is for members whos ISP's uses proxies or NAT's where the IP is being changed causing the member to loose the connection to their session.

Will look at adding to the next release an option for sessions not to use IP addresses. Although this will be allot less secure would hopefully help fix the issue you are presently experiencing.

Thanks but it is really causing problems. 1 Min I have 150 active users and the next Min only 2. Seems it is more than just not being able to post. Its loosing connections to the DB or something, or member information.

Now I know the issue.

Active users are kept in an application variable if the application pool for your website is recycling then all active users will be dropped and you will also get the Insufficient permissions problem that you mention.

First you should check that your application pool has a single worker process, then check the following to prevent the application pool recycling:-

1. Disable rapid fail protection
2. Check that private and virtual memory limits are not set for recycling the application pool
3. Make sure that the application pool is not set to recycle after number of minutes and is just set to your 00:15 time
4. Make sure that another application running on your website is not using session abandon, which will cause all sessions to be dropped (chat rooms often have this, but the one built in to web wiz forums does not)

You may want to place the forum in it's own application folder and give it it's own application pool to ensure that other applications on your website are not causing problems with it.

If you still find you have problems with the app pool recycling after all this you should get on to Microsoft support as there is probably something wrong with the server.
