I'm using version 9.73, I can't upgrade until my friend who hosts the board has time to the update.
The board in question is www.leaguerugby.co.uk.

Recently I have been plagued by spammers so I thought I would turn on the verify your address by email function.  See below.

However when someone registers, clicks on the link in the email, instead of letting them access the forum, it tells them to contact the administrator - me!

I don't know why - I am not technical!

Can you help?

Thanks in advance.

Are the accounts being activated or are you having to activate the account for them?

The accounts are not being self activated and I am not activating them as mod - in fact I tried to see how/where I can activate them manually but failed miserably!

You can activate them manually by editing the user profile when logged in as an admin.

The first thing i would do to try and fix the issue is upload the original files again as it maybe a corrupted file causing the problem as there are no known issues with the way accounts are activated by email.

Also check in the admin area the path to your forum is correct so that the activation link in the email is not going to an incorrect location.
