I am trying to install Webwiz forums 10.03 and upgrade my Access database from version 7.9. I follow the installation wizard and select 'Upgrade from Web Wiz Forums 7.x', then 'Microsoft Access', then enter my database name and path.  This is where the problems start. If I click on 'Test Database Connection', it is successful and when I click 'Next' the wizard returns to the 'Select Installation Type' screen for some reason.  If I don't test the connection and click 'Next' then I get an 'An Error Occurred Writing the Database Settings File' error with a message to check my permissions for the database directory.  This directory is already used for my current Webwiz 7.9 Access database so I know the permissions are OK.  Any advice?

Thanks.

In your Web Wiz Forums install directory you will find a folder called 'database'. This folder contains files that hold information on your database. The install/upgrade wizard needs to write your database configuration information to these files.

You need to set read, write, and modify permissions on the Web Wiz Forums 'database' directory so that the install/upgrade wizard can write to the files in this folder.

Information on this is in stage 5 of the Access version upgrade instructions:-

Still no luck.  The permissions all appear set correctly (read, write, execute all allowed or value '777') on this directory.  I am doing something different than the instructions though as I am installing Webwiz forusm 10.03 beside my old 7.9 version, but in a different directory under the root.  I wanted to get the new version up and running before deleting the old one so I made a copy of the old database, renamed it in the same directory.  Could any of this be causing the problem?

Can I get some help on this?  I've tried everything now and can't get a different result.  I will have to request a refund at this point since I can't get the upgrade to work.

You can not set or see permissions on a Windows server using FTP, so your FTP program reporting '777' for the permissions means nothing on Windows. Setting permissions with FTP is something that can only be done on *nix servers.

You need to contact your web host and ask them to check the read, write, and modify permissions on the 'database' directory.
