I'm not sure how this can be setup, what the options are, so will ask these questions:
Let's say there's a member who gets into it with another from time to time. Each has great value to the forum, but one tends to follow the other and bully, poke and prod to get the other to react.

Can a member be put into a group and the group set so that posts by anyone in the group need to be "approved"?
Can this be done where they could post freely in one area, and not others without "approval?"

We have just a small handful, say 3 or 4, where we'd like to have a probation or approval for their posts. This might prevent the mix-ups. If they know that any nasty posts will simply be not approved, it might make them think before typing.

But we want only a select few to have to be "moderated". Can people be members of multiple groups, say a ladder group, and also a group called "moderated" for example?

As forum is Members can only be part of one Group at a time.

You can easily put members into a Group that requires post approval in select forums only. Only an Administrator can move people between groups.

If each member needs to be moderated in different forums - you can set the permissions on an individual basis (and if its only about 4 people - it would probably be better). This would also allow them to be in a Ladder group - effectively meaning "multiple groups". Again can only be set by an Administrator

I guess I misunderstood Bruce a while back as I thought he said something about being a member of more than one group. Sort of like Active Directory - security groups.....
if member of XXX and XXX then
or
if member of xxx or bbb then
sort of thing
The group with the most strict security wins. So if they are a member of the second ladder group that gives them full post rights in all forums, but are also a member of "moderated" group with restrictions, the restrictions are applied. sort of like a firewall, too.

I think this is possible.

Create a group called 'Group 1' or whatever.
Then on the forum where you are allowing them to post, set the permissions as normal.
On the forum you want to moderate, tick the 'post approval' box.

You can't have them in more than one group, so they will have a different group name to others and know they are being watched. - but then I guess they would know that only their posts are moderated anyway.
