I noticed this problem: Sticky topic. Topicstarter edit the first post of topics. The result - not sticked topic

Only Forums Admin and Moderators can set Sticky Topics.

He's talking about a bug which I have known, for as long as I've been a WWF user Bruce..

Full scenario is:

1) A member with edit post permissions, starts a thread and then asks one of the Mod / Admin Team to make it a sticky (which we would do if it was a vital / important type thread).
2) The thread is then a sticky.
3) The original member then edits the OP of the thread.
4) That thread then becomes unstuck and sinks... So he then needs to ask the Mod / Admin to sticky it again.

Sometimes we will sticky a thread by a non Mod / Admin for various reasons (club meet / club group buy) but it always becomes unstuck if that member edits the OP to add info / update etc etc. Which is what Ritchie is trying to explain (I think).

Not sure if it's a "bug" or a simple case of the fact that as you say, only Mod / Admin can sticky and as soon as a stickied thread by a non Mod / Admin gets edited by that member, it automatically drops the sticky tag if they edit the opening post and update.

Many thanks,
Shaun

PS - This has always been the case since we started with WWF in 2002.. Still the case with 10.03 as I have just tested to be 100% :)

PPS - Ideally a sticky will remain a sticky once stickied, regardless of who edits the opening post... Until that thread is deleted or made an normal non sticky.

Bruce - you can fix this problem?

I believe that this issue was looked in to around 5 years ago and there was a reason why this issue could not be fixed.

I will add it to the 'to do' list to have another look at though.

Bruce, is that issue fixed in 10.12 version? Priority of that sticky topic can't be preserved during edit process?

Only forum admins and moderators can make topics sticky. The problem is that if a non admin or moderator edits the first post in the topic because they do not have permission to make the topic sticky it will loose it's sticky status.

The problem is that it is not possible to have the topic stay as a sticky topic if a non admin or moderator edits the first post as it leaves a security hole in the software where non admin or moderators can make topics sticky when they do not have permission to do so.
