Hi folks
Sometimes members want to resign from our forum. In that case we have to delete them from the member's list.
Is it possible for members to "delete themselves"?

It is not possible for members to delete their own accounts.

What I would suggest that you do instead so that you do not end up with a disjointed forum with missing posts is to change your forums rules to give you publishing rights of any posts they create. Then if a member wants to leave the forum you only have to remove any personal information from their forum profile and suspend their account, without having to also delete their posts.

That's okay Bruce but I wonder why members do not have the opportunity to delete their own accounts? Wouldn't it be an easy option to add at their profile?

Allowing members to delete their own profiles could seriously mess up your forum.

For example what would you do with their posts, do you also remove these, as this could lead to a very disjointed forum.

If you allowed them to delete their profile but not their posts then you could have someone signup, leave some nasty posts and then delete their profile and you have no way of knowing who left the nasty posts.

You could also land yourself in hot water legally. I have seen many legal issues arise from forums against the forum owner due to defamatory posts which the website owner is liable for and if a member could delete their own profile they could destroy evidence that you would need to defend yourself in court.

You got some strong points there Bruce. I'll handle it to my forum members who were asking and wondering.
