Good morning,

I have just added a WebWiz hosted forum to my web site as a place to talk about products that I sell on my main sites and a new web service that I hope to go live with very soon (all hosted here).

Whilst the forum has NOT been created as source of revenue from advertising, I am not averse to a bit of extra cash, so I have enabled the Viglink functionality.

I am curious about how Viglink works in practice, this post is a good example, Viglink is highlit a number of times.

For example; does it find lots of words in posts and make them links to USA based businesses that have little or no relevance to UK users, or maybe someone has decided that it is better to turn it off because it makes the forum look amateurish?

Why I am wondering is that looking at my Viglink account, it is in dollars, although it recognises my account as UK, and it wants proof that I am not a US tax payer, none of this seems "normal" for a scheme that has a lot of UK based business.

Initially I was going to say that Webwiz don't appear to use it on this forum, but having reviewed this post I see that Viglink has become a link, so they clearly do:-).

Bye and thanks for any thoughts

Ian

It all depends on your forum to how much you make. I know of UK Web Wiz Forums websites that make around $2,000 USD a month from VigLink.

The link insertion does not make much money, but if someone has created a link to say an eBay listing then if the link is clicked from your forum and a purchase is made on eBay you get some money from VigLink.

Forums that tend to do better are ones such as car forums, audio forums, electronic forums, etc. that have 'for sale' forums where members list items they have for sale.

I've enabled it on mine, but not the link insertion as I found that a little off putting.

What mine does is convert a link that someone else creates - for example to ebay or amazon into a viglink one. The link still works as it should but it doesn't look different or off putting to the user. You then get a bit of commission.

If you have a high traffic site then you could make a fair bit from it.

I have it on here: http://www.v40ownersclub.co.uk/forum" rel="nofollow - Volvo V40 Forums but you can't tell.
