Good morning,

I have just set up my forum ( http://forums.IanSmithcse.co.uk) as a support forum and it is linked to from more than one site, these sites look significantly different;  http://www.IanSmithCSE.co.uk and http://www.SimpleServiceCentre.co.uk  (which is still under development).

I have skinned the forum so that it matches http://www.IanSmithCSE.co.uk, but I would love to be able to have multiple skins so that I could link to it by something like;

http://forums.iansmithcse.co.uk/forums.html?SkinID=2&

So that the forum would select the skin that matches the site it was called from.

Would anyone else find this a useful facility?

Bye

Ian

Hi Ian,

I'm no html expert, but what your asking seems IMO to complex for standard html coding. What you could do is purchase more forums, more domain names, change the skin in each to suit, then link to them, you could also mask the domain name you choose in web forwarding if you purchase further domain/s and link to them, but I can tell you now Google do not like masking and will demote the forums in SERPS. Expensive exercise and no go in SERPS if you mask. Bruce is good, but he can't overcome Google.

Regards Paul.

Good morning,

Thanks for your thoughts and I am sure that it will annoy Bruce to suggest that anything is simple, but I have a feeling that this would be fairly simple, if it was wanted.

The customisation information for each forum appears t

I don't know if it would of been of interest to your situation, but my http://www.s2h.co.uk/wwf/mods/multiskin-selection/" rel="nofollow - Multiskin Selection has this ability built in. However it would show the list of skins as an option to the visitor.

Good afternoon

Thanks very much for your offer.

I now have the forum working the way that I want by using a SkinID parameter in the URL, if none is provided a default skin is used.

To do this I ended up changing global_variables_inc.asp in a way that other users may feel less comfortable with.

I would be happy to paste this modified file for others to look at, but I can’t seem to attach files to posts and it is too long to include in the body of a message.

Are we allowed to paste modifed WebWiz source files as this is a public forum?

If you are curious, at the bottom of my last post, I posted some urls with the SkinID parameter in use (only values 0,1,2 map to actual skins using other values is a bad idea).

Thanks again and bye

Ian
