Subject: New post needs approval, how do I know that ....

Good morning.

I have set up my forum to require that all posts on all subjects require approval, this is deliberate and is what  I want.

However I can’t seem to find an option that will send an email to me, or anyone, when a new post is created and needs approval.

I am expecting perhaps one post per week, so clearly do not want to be actively checking.

Is this me being an idiot, or does this facility not exist?

Thanks and bye

Ian

If admins or moderators are subscribed to the forum through the 'Subscription' tab in the 'Members Control Panel' section then those admins or moderators will get an email notification of posts that require approving.

Thanks,

I have just gone and done this.

As I am the only moderator (and at the moment member as well) I was looking for a catch all rather than something on a forum by forum basis.Smile  Its not a problem to set it on a forum basis though.

Bye

Ian

I know this isn't email notifications, but you can see a list of all pending posts by going to any forum you are a moderator of and clicking on the "Moderator Tools" near the login/out buttons and selecting "Moderated Topics".

The page is:
example.com/forum/pre_approved_topics.asp

So you could bookmark this page and just visit it regularly, as Bruces solution would mean you will receive an email for every single post that is not your own, even if they are automatically approved.

Good  morning

Thanks for this thought.

My problem is that I am primarily a freelance developer, but I also sell some products under my own name and am close to finally launching a web based suite of services that I have been thinking about for quite a while.

I am using the forum as a support forum so I have decided to have every post moderated to avoid the inevitable spam that some people post appearing.

Its pretty difficult when working on a customer's business premises to keep looking at a web site, whereas an email can be collected automatically by my mobile and vibrate.

Bye

Ian

Web Wiz Forums is pretty good at stopping spam without needing to have post approval on. The page below has information on preventing spam:-

http://www.webwiz.net/web-wiz-forums/kb/spam-prevention.htm" rel="nofollow - http://www.webwiz.net/web-wiz-forums/kb/spam-prevention.htm

So that you are notified of posts in your forum you could add the forums RSS Feed to your email client, or if you get your news through something like Google Reader. You would then be notified of new posts in your forum without the need of email.
