Subject: Blocking an IP range

The other day; I noticed like 10 people viewing my site and since the new forum has only been up a few hours at that point, I found it suspicious. After running a whois on the IP address; I discovered that the IP is associated with the ZBot/Zeus banking Trojan.

I set up a ban for the IP range 123.125.71.*. I had no more visits from that IP range since. Well, until today when I saw 5 users on at once and went to check it out. According the Active users list, that same IP range was viewing postings.

Is the ban not working; and if not, how do I fix this issue?

Web Wiz Forums has IP banning not IP Blacking, which when an IP address or range is banned anyone on an banned IP will not be able to register or post within forums. It does not stop them viewing public forums.

For IP Blacking you want to do that within IIS, which can often be setup in the web.config file if your IIS server supports IP Blocking.

hmm, okay; not really a big deal; I could probably write an outside script that would redirect them away from the content of the forum, if they are a threat to snooping my forum for the personal details of my visitors; so its cool. thanks.

If you are using IIS 7 or 8 you should be able to block IP addresses from accessing your website through the websites web.config file.

Check with your hosting if they have the IIS IP and Domain Restrictions module installed.

yea; I am sure they do, but that would require that I manually add IP's each time I ban one in the forum. With ASP, I can keep unwanted visitors away from my forums main contact, by using the already existing banned IP list of WebWiz.

Writing a outside script that would accomplish this, should not violate any of the WebWiz terms of service; right?
