After upgrading Web Wiz Forum from version 10.03 to 10.14 it can't be used all since all the international (Swedish) characters are all garbled. Have a look at: http://forum-1014.kryssakuten.se - http://forum-1014.kryssakuten.se I had to revert the installation to 10.03 to make the forum readable (but both runs against the same database): http://forum.kryssakuten.se - http://forum.kryssakuten.se The web page is UTF-8 and the database is UTF-8. Writing a new message in version 10.14 with "åäöÅÄÖ" works, but the characters are saved all garbled in database (åäöÅÄÖ). In version 10.03, the characters was stored properly as "åäöÅÄÖ" i the database.   |

The server is IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003. The database is MySql version 5.0.45-community-nt-log.

Good afternoon, I doubt that this is relevant but it might be, so I will
post it just in case A long time ago, when the current MySQL ODBC driver was myODBC
3.51 there were numerous issues with UTF-8 character sets, this was fixed in
later versions. I recently downloaded version 10.12 of the forum and the default value
for the MySQL ODBC driver is 3.51. File Database\database_settings.asp line 62 strMyODBCDriver = "3.51" Is it possible that in the past you or someone else changed
it to something more modern such as 5.1 in your existing and working forum? Bye Ian ------------- Why does anyone need more than an 80x25 character only VDU? |

Thank you for your answer, Ian! Unfortunately this is not the case. I've checked that both versions uses ODBC 5.1. I even tried to upgrade the forum with 3.51, but that did not work at all, since it isn't installed on the server.

Now I have found the really strange solution! By adding the translated language files all the characters was displayed properly again! Now it works, but the serious problem is that the Web Wiz Forum does not support UTF-8 since all the asp files are encoded in ASCII and not in UTF-8.

You should set the correct locale in your common.asp file. Thank you, Bruce! But that was not the problem, LCID was never set in the old version either. To make Web Wiz Forum to use UTF-8 one solution I found was to change the encoding in language_file_inc.asp from ASCII to UTF-8. This seems to change the whole forum to work with UTF-8 (haven't tested all pages).
