Hey all:

I have a site rule not to delete member profiles simply because it is too easy for someone to abuse this priveledge by asking to be deleted and then coming back under a different name with the same email.  I have already had to deal with one abusive member and I think he has finally gotten tired of creating new e-mail accounts because I will suspend him vs delete him so for him to re-register is more of a hassle and hopefully he won't bother.

However, I have some other innocent users who want to leave me site.  As a site admin it is easier to have the same rules accross the board so what I would like to see (if it doesn't already exist).... a mod where users accounts are not only suspended but hidden from everyone except the admin.  They would not be searchable, PM, be able to log in or count towards the active members.

I searched thru support and I didn't see anything similiar.  I didn't check Maddog's site yet.  Has anything done anything like this?  Is anything like this in the works?  Could others benefit from this? (I'm more motivated try to get it done if I think others could use it )

Would this slow down the board --- I am thinking about the psuedo code, and for example, to display the members.asp page:

select username from tblauthors <- is about how it reads now

select username from tblAuthors WHERE status <> hidden

Basically my question is does the "where" clause slow down the SQL statement?

yes you can do that and it shouldn't affect performance... PMs are still gonna work unless you add some code on the pm files so it won't allow pms to an user when status=hidden

good call --- I'll have to change that too.  To any other user besides admin there account should look as if it has been deleted.
