Sorry in advance for asking what I suspect is a stupid question but how can members of the forum be automatically be notified to their registered e-mail every time there is a new post on the forum?

There is no easy way to receive notifications for the entire forum, but they can subscribe to individual threads and forums.

To subscribe to a thread, click on the "Topic Options" of this thread and you will see  "Watch This Topic".

To subscribe to a forum, http://forums.webwiz.net/web-wiz-forums_forum1.html" rel="nofollow - go to the forum and click "Forum Options" just above the logout button, this will offer the option "Watch This Forum".

Alternatively you can go to the Subscriptions page under the Member Control Panel to subscribe to forums and unsubscribe from threads.

I find it easier to use an RSS reader like Feedly or Google Reader (until it goes away) to subscribe to each forum. All posts in one place. It makes a great archive.
