Uncheck  the option for admins to activate account and try again? If the script is failing at that point maybe the error is there. What about checking that your admin has a valid email account and that your forum is able to send emails properly?

Thank you for your help. It's definitely something on the mail side of things as you suggest.

If I set the delivery system to CDOSYS and mailserver to localhost with no username/password all is fine. As soon as I save that page though it autofills the username/password with settings from an older install and the mail fails to send.

Trying to figure out how I can now keep those 2 fields from autofilling.

EDIT
OK, so it looks to be a google chrome issue.  Firefox saved the settings with blank fields and also activated the account once I pasted the link into it. Chrome still fails to authenticate user though so must handle the data different(??)

Thanks for your suggestions, gave me a good idea on where to start :)

Autofill settings are browser specific. I think you can disable it by going to  chrome://settings/passwords" rel="nofollow - chrome://settings/passwords  and it should be in there somewhere. Good luck!
