Microsoft Edge uses the same Triton engine as IE 11 and so suffers the same bugs as IE 11.

The same issue affects IE 11 but with IE 11 you can force the page to be loaded to IE 10 mode so that the editor works.

It does work with Microsoft Edge but the Protective Mode that is enabled by default in IE 11 and Microsoft Edge prevents the JavaScript 'window.opener' from working. You can edit the settings to disable Protective Mode to have the editor work in Microsoft Edge.

We are working on a solution that does not require disabling Protective Mode in Microsoft Edge but will require a complete re-write of the whole editor!

Microsoft Edge has to be the worse browser ever as it feels half completed and totally sucks, so hopefully not to many people will be using it.

Hello, problems to insert emoticons, special characters is still in version 11.04 with Edge.

Version 11.04 was released to patch a couple of security vulnerabilities and does not include a fix for the Rich Text Editor in Microsoft Edge.

Getting the Rich Text Editor to work with Microsoft Edge requires removing all Popup Windows and replacing them with IFrames or an AJAX solution which is likely to take months of work as requires an almost total rewrite of the Rich text Editor.

For the moment if you disable Protective Mode in IE 11 and Edge then the JavaScript 'window.opener' will work and allowing the Rich text Editor to insert content from the Popup Windows in to the Editor.

Well I was using IE11 with no problems inserting emoticons. Can't with Edge of course.

Just as well IE is still there on Win 10, buried in the Windows Accessories.

Can I ask a silly question?
How do I turn off Protected mode in Edge? I can find the control in IE11, but not in Edge.

With IE 11 the Rich Text Editor tells IE 11 to load in IE 10 backward compatibility mode to get around the issue.

With Edge Microsoft have removed the backward compatibility mode so it is not possible to use this workaround any more.

I am not sure where you would disable the protective mode in Edge. It does feel like Microsoft Edge has been released before it is ready as it feels like it is half complete and missing features and settings.

Yes, I'm getting the same impression, not unusual with Microsoft.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Maybe it's better to disable the RTE on Edge:
