Going to New Posts when logging on, then clicking on the yellow arrow head used to always go to the last post in a topic.
For some reason this is not now happening for me, it goes to some random (seemingly) post midway down, for instance if the topic is 6 pages, it goes to a post on page 3, even when I have posted in that topic later on.

If I scroll down the front page and click on the same pointer in the latest topics, it usually does go to the last post.

This is a new computer running Windows 8.1 with IE11. Is there some setting I've missed somewhere? Just that it's a bit annoying.

The yellow arrow is taking you to the last 'unread' post in that topic.

If there are unread posts in the topic the arrow is shown in yellow and takes you to the last 'unread' post in that topic.

If the arrow is grey you have read all posts in that topic and it takes you to the last post in the topic.

No, it's taking me to posts much earlier. I had already contributed to the topic, but next time it takes me to a page perhaps before that post.
Sometimes it takes me to the first page out of 7, when I have looked at that topic many times before.

I get logged in automatically so I don't think it's a cookie problem.

This feature has been tested many times over the years since uit was introduced and no issues have been found with the way it work.

It is likely that you did not look at the page in that topic that has the unread post so that post is still marked as unread even if you went to the last page in the topic. Once you visit the page in the topic that has the unread post it is then marked as read.

When you go in to the topic posts that are unread are marked with a yellow star on them next to the post date, once you have viewed it the yellow star turns in to a blue dot.

When you click the yellow arrow it will take you to the last unread post in that forum or topic which will be marked with the yellow star next to the post date to show that post is unread.

I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with the software, up to now it has always worked exactly as you said, but currently it is not. I think it's a problem at my end, just trying to find out what it might be.

I have checked the feature so many times now in the last few days, that I know it is not currently taking me to the right place most of the time. On certain topics it always takes me back to the same place, day after day.

Yellow stars and blue dots - not on my version. Or at least, as a moderator I can't see them. I'm running version 10.18.

There is one particular topic which is now 7 pages long, and it always takes me to page 2 no matter how many times I check each page.

Unfortunately unless the issue can be replicated in the lab there would not be a way to find what the issue is and have not seen or heard of this issue before so it would be very difficult to be able to find a way to resolve this.

Well I've checked the same thing on two other computers, an old ThinkPad running XP and IE8, and a Vaio running Win 8.1 and IE11 same as this. Both work as they should in this respect, so all I have to do is work out what is different on this one.

PS. Just been through all the Internet settings, including advanced, and both this PC and the Vaio are exactly the same.

Could you give me a bit of information on this please?
How does the forum know where I last looked, is it stored on a cookie on my computer or within my profile in the forum?

As a PS to the above, I have just installed Opera on this PC and again everything works as it should. So there must be something different about my installation of IE11.

To calculate unread posts the last date you visited the forum is used which then create an array  of unread posts server side which is used to mark off all unread posts as read as you go through the forum.

It could be that IE is caching the redirect which is why you are ending up at the wrong page as the cached redirect is used rather than loading in fresh data.

I am sure a no cache header is set for the redirect. Are you using the latest version of web wiz forums?

Yes, just been updated. But the update made no difference to this situation.

It could be that Internet Explorer cached the redirect under the previous version that you had running before you upgraded.

Thanks for all the pointers, I think I might have sorted it.

I changed the internet options and forced IE to look for a new copy every time I visit a webpage, also removed the option to cash pages.
This still didn't help. so I deleted the Temp internet files, again closed the browser and reopened, and it seems to work as it should.

Well things are still not right.
Having done all of the above, and having visited a topic before, I get a grey arrow if I go to new topics and select say the last 2 hours. If I click on that grey arrow in long topics it still takes me to a specific point often on the first page.
If I then go to the forum home page, scroll to the bottom and click on the same grey arrow at the end of the same topic it always takes me to the last post in the topic.
If I then go back to new topics, and click on that arrow again, it still takes me to that same point on the first page.

Confused? Yes.

Well just upgraded to Windows 10. Still using the same IE11, but the problem has gone away, so the upgrade clearly changed something.

Spoke too soon, problem back. Clearly HP have messed with the version of IE in some way and of course Edge doesn't work with WebWiz.

Well a few others on the forum have now reported this problem, when clicking on the yellow arrowhead in "new topics" they don't get sent to the last unread post. This is on various browsers too.
But I have just found that running CCleaner  does seem to sort the problem. I will get others to try this and see what happens.

Yesterday I ran CCleaner before looking at the forum and I went to last unread post every time.
Today I didn't run it, and went to exactly the same point as I did yesterday.

Doesn't happen on other forums though.
