When I installed the 7.9 system, my upload folder was named upload. I assume that name was created by the software.

When I updated to 11.04, I initially tried using that same folder, but the file upload software failed looking for uploads (with an "s"). I assumed I had made an error somewhere, renamed it, and the file uploads started working again.

Now, when I open a posting that was made in 7.9 and attempt to access a file, it fails because it is looking for the upload folder.

I assume that if I keep the old files in the upload folder and create uploads for the new files it will still work.

Seems to me that the documentation should alert you about this change in name. I don't think that I was the one naming that folder back in 7.9.

Web Wiz Forums folder for uploading has always been named as 'uploads'. I have checked back to version 7.9 released in 2005 to double check this.

Versions before version 8 released in Jan 2006 did allow you to rename the upload folder which it sounds like you must have done with your older version of web wiz forums.

This is not a problem though as you just need to keep your old 'upload' folder with all it's uploaded files in and create a new folder called 'uploads' and set write permissions on this new folder for new uploads.

Web Wiz Forums had pretty much a complete write 10 years ago during 2005 for the Jan 2006 version 8 release of Web Wiz Forums which included a completely new upload system. This included removing the option to move or rename the 'uploads' folder which caused conflict issues if the folder had been moved or renamed.

There have been probably well over 100 versions released since version 7.9 with many 1,000's of changes that are listed in the 'Version History' file.

You may though need to look back to posts from 2006 concerning the massive changes from version 7.9 to 8 that where discussed at the time and may affect upgrading.
