It looks like your web browser is producing some strange non compliant HTML that causes the word highlight part of the search feature to fail.

Will need to look in to this in the lab and fix if for the next release.

I have tried it at work and at home so it happens on different pc's. Problem is there on IE11, Chrome and Edge. Not tried Firefox.

It was working fine on 11-06 so it was something introduced when I upgraded to 11-08

We have had another customer report the same issue in 10.18.

We have been able to replicate the issue with both 11.06 and 11.09 in the lab.

It looks like the issue is caused if you create a post in the latest version of Chrome and that post contains a line break. The HTML <br> tag that Chrome creates is not detected correctly causing the search word highlighter to crash.

We hope to release a new version that fixes this issue later today.

Several people have reported this very recently on our WebWiz forum, version 11.04. Can't see how Chrome could come into it, most don't use that. I don't but got the same problem just now.
Will see about changing to 11.10.

This has been heavily tested in the lab and the issue is caused by the way the latest version of Chrome creates line breaks in posts.

The issue is not caused by the person searching using Chrome but if any of the Search Results contain a Post created in the latest version of Chrome the Search will crash with a 500 Internal Server Error Message.

This only effects searches where you select 'Show Posts' and not for searches where the person selects 'Show Topics'.

The issue is caused by the search words being highlighted in the Posts returned by the search. When it comes to a post created in Chrome with a line break the search results crash as the search word highlighter can not correctly determine the end of the <br> line break created in Chrome.

As Chrome is the most popular browser on the Internet with a 63% share as of December 2016, it is very likely that a number of posts on your forum are created in Chrome.

We are on version 11.4.  Recently we have noticed a similar error.  It's not a 500 error, but it happens only when doing a "Show Posts" search.

The error we get is:

Microsoft VBScript runtime
error '800a0005'

Invalid procedure call or argument: 'Mid'

/forum/functions/functions_format_post.asp, line 1020

This is the same error. You will get this error if you have detailed error messages enabled on the web server, if you have detailed error messages disabled you get a 500 Internal Error message.

To fix the issue you would need to upgrade to Web Wiz Forums 11.10

Bruce is there a way we can download just the updated files?  I'm only seeing an all-or-nothing kind of thing in the download area...

You can use the changed log to see which files have been changed;

However, I would advise to update all the files when upgrading between versions.
