I am hosting  Web Wiz Forums. I am not using an SSL.  As there are no credit card numbers and I have a small number of users (about 100), is the one-way encryption good enough?  The problem is that some browsers warn people that the login is not secure. It may scare people.

But there is one more possible problem.  Some people use one or two passwords for everything.  Their bank account, etc. It concerns me.

I think you are confusing server side and client (browser) side.

The web browser has no idea how a password is stored on the server. You get a warning in browsers for any password form on websites that do not have an SSL certificate.

The reason for this is that Chrome, Firefox, Edge as pressing for all websites to use SSL encryption throughout, and if they spot a page that asks for user input that does not have an SSL certificate they will warn the user.
