Subject: Unreasonable Users / Limit Number of Posts

We primarily manage support for our web app via the WebWiz support forum.

We have some forum members that just can't help themselves. They are creating an unreasonable burden on our support staff. The most recent problem user posted 104 times in one week, and we have responded 104 times. He is paying us $20/month.

Is there any way to limit the number of posts by a particular user in a certain time period (hour/day/week/year)?

Any other suggestions?

Sorry there is not a way to limit the number of posts a single user can make.

The only workaround I can think would be to suspend their account manually and then re-enable later after a set time.

You could update forum rules to say that if you post more than x number of posts per week your account will be suspended for the rest of the week.

Thanks for the response and the suggestion Bruce. The issue with that is that I can't customize the suspension message.

I was just hoping there was some sort of throttle setting for post frequency that I missed. I will probably look into creating a Mod for this as I'm quite familiar with Classic ASP.

I have another user with 1634 posts (not threads) in 4 years. We've responded probably 1500 times to him. We just suspended his account and he was somehow shocked by that. Imagine having to reply 1500 times to one of your users here on the forum or via a support ticket. Uggh.

If anyone else has input on my situation let me know.

There is a flood control within the admin area which limits the number of posts non admin user can make within set time frames.

I did not mention this before as it effects all non admin users, but you could use this if you want to limit the frequency of posts for all users.

To change the suspension message text. All the text within the forum is kept in the files in the language_files folder. You can edit these in notepad to change the text used within the forum.

Also the ladder system could be used. You could place certain members in a ladder group that when they reach a certain number of posts the group they get moved to has no permission to post in some or all forums.
