I am running version 11.04 of Web Wiz Forum and I need to migrate from SQL Server 2008 to 2017. I think the easiest way to do this is to backup the 2008 database and restore it as 2017, then replace the DSN with a new name that points at the 2017 database. Is that correct?

If yes, can you tell me where I can find the current DSN and then how to update it to the new one? I have gone through all the admin menus but I can't find anything about the database connections.

Web Wiz Forums uses a faster DNS-less connection.

You can find the database settings in the 'database/database_settings.asp' file where you can update the database details to point to your new database server.
