The hosting company that I am doing business with has been purchased by another company and I am forced to migrate all of my sites to the new location. One customer uses WebWiz Forums and the application and database were moved automatically by their migration software.

At first when I tried to logon I received a blank page so I read various documents and I discovered that the necessary connection information was retained in database_settings.asp, so I revised the fields to reflect the new hosting domain. (It's a SQL implementation).

Unfortunately it still fails, and here is the output:

Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occurred while connecting to the database.
Please contact the Forum Administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_SQLServer_db_connection
File Name:- database_connection.asp
Forum Version:- 11.04

Error details:-
Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server
Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53].

Can someone tell me what this means? Is there a proper way to do that migration that I need to follow? I'm kind of desperate to get the system back running after nearly a week of down time!

The way you migrate Web Wiz Forums is;

1. Download all the files for Web Wiz Forums from the old host

2. Create a backup of the SQL Server database from the old host

3. Upload the Web Wiz Forum files to the new web host

4. Restore the SQL Server database backup to the new host

5. Edit the file database/database_settings.asp in notepad to put in the database connection details for the new webhost.

The error message you are getting says that there is an issue connecting to the database. Check with your new provider the database connection information they have given you is correct. The SQL Server needs to be installed in mix mode to allow TCP/IP connections.
