This error can happen if the SMTP serevr settings are incorrect.

I have also come across a bug in XP Pro that for some reason you get this error if a script is trying to use CDOSYS in a pertcular folder and for some reason if you move the script to another folder in the web site, usually the root, it starts to work again, but then it can be intermitent. To this end I tend not to use CDOSYS on an XP Pro machine.

Do a search on google for the CDONTS component, download it and install it on your machine.

Make sure that you have email activation enabled from the admin area.

Also many email accounts like Hotmail or if you are using a spam filter will see these types of emails sent from scripts as spam and reject them.

email activation is enabled cant test email activation of membership as the forum wb address box in the settings cuts off the forum address as it wont allow enough characters is this easy to edit? ok ive been having limited sucess with the email stuff but this is how it seems to work regardless of which one i use cdonts cdoys or aspemail I can recive email to say my own username in admin I recieve all notification of posts etc but anyone else recives email only whenI select from admin to email a group any ideas why this might be is there another SAMPT service I can try other than MS iis one ? REason Im thinking of that is that at looking at google and badmail directorys etc SMTp service on XP pro seems terribly buggy

Cheers for the help im sure it will work in the end

If you are planning on using your own computer to host your site with the forum then you need a server operating system.

Win XP Pro's IIS only allows 10 connections to it, and as each image in a page can be counted as a new connection this emans that only one person at a time will be able to view your site.

If you want to host your own site then you need a server OS, like Windows 2000 Server (not the pro version) or Windows 2003 Server.

Hello,

I have been having the same problem.  Could you tell me how you eventually solved your problem.  I this my solution lies here...

Make sure that you have email activation enabled from the admin area.

Also many email accounts like Hotmail or if you are using a spam filter will see these types of emails sent from scripts as spam and reject them.

Please let me know if you know better.

Thanks

Sandy
