I heard mySQL have/will-soon support relational databases!  Any chance in furute for a mySQL version of the forum then?

Also I was wondering, why did you choose to make the forum using relationships inside the database when ASP can handle relationsghips?  Just curious it might be better I got no idea!

Plus I heard that mySQL is better than msSQL?  Is this true?

It's noty so much the relationships, it's more to do with the fact that the myODBC database drivers that enable ASP to talk to the mySQL database are compltly naff and don't fully support ADO.

I persoanlly think that MS SQL server is much better than mySQL, but some people will argue that becuase mySQL is faster it is better, but the main reason for mySQL being faster is that it doesn't fully support the SQL 99 standards so it is a smaller engine and thuse faster.

There are quite a few other reasons for MS SQL being better which is why many large organisations such as banks use if for massave databases that mySQL simply couldn't handle. Although I beleive that Oriacle is a better database system and you would be better comparing Oricale and MS SQL server.

Plus when it comes to "real" databases SQL Server is the fastet. How lese could they have the current record of almost 800,000 Queries per minute with a Windows Server 2003 DataCenter Edition + SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition. Bruce is right for small databases mySQL is faster but heck even Access can be faster on very small databases. SQL is just not made for you every day address book.

Since my webhost only offers Access and MySQl, and only gives me script access to Access; I have learned a few asp/MySQL tricks, including but not limited to: paging, direct linking, and optimizations. MySQL does supprt relationships. I used them all them all the time.

If anyone has questions, just ask.

MySQL is not a Ralational Database Management System (RDMS) and although you can create links between fields in tables in an SQL query on a mySQL database you can't create relationships within the database system itself.

I'm a big MS fan, but I think I find myself buying into the Oracle propaganda for the moment. Some of the stuff you can do with Oracle is just insanely powerful. As far as it goes, Oracle has about 40% market share, DB2 a bit less, and MS SQL Server trails with about 19% or so. (mySQL was not included in those stats though - I forget where they are from now... an independant source anyways)

Overall though, I don't see any reason or justification for using anything except MS SQL Server. It has lots of power and the price is far better than Oracle.

And MS gives it all away for free for developers anyways. That doesn't help if you need it for production and have to buy it though. But whatever... MS is just the absolute best company for working with developers and supporting them. Nobody else comes close. And that's the decisive factor for me.

So once again...

Hurrah Micro$oft!
