Subject: few questions here....

Hi,

I've a few questions, if you don't mind:
1) I'm looking to intergrate the forum into a content management system I'm building for my site.  The site allows me to create new profiles for members.  When I enter a new user, and put their details into my own db, such as username, password, pic, description, etc, for me to also be able to make a new forum within the forum script, in the name of that new user.  So each new user, that I make, can have a mini-forum of their own.

I'm sure this is just a case of updating the forum db, but am not sure which tables I need to update....

2) I have another forum on a seperate part of my site, that has it's own user's and passwords.  Is there any way I can allow those users, access to these other forums.. and visa versa??
I'm looking to have all the users of both forums as one list, not one for one and one for the other....

3) Finaly question - when you login to this forum, you click a link to be taken straight back to the forum you were in before you logged in. How is this achieved?

TIA

James

well allowing every user to create a forum is crazy IMO... you might end up with thousands of forums and it'll be very slow and hard to browse....

to share the same tables for two forums using access you might have to do a lot of editing to the code... if you're using ms sql version you can use views

when you login the value of the forum where you at is passed on from page to page on the url like login_user.asp?FID=3

(1) Sounds like an admin nightmare but to each their own. I'd suggest using the WWG forums and the permissions groups OR once a user registers then create them a forum and assign them explicit user access to it. That's still an admin nightmare but can be done all with the WWG forum. Automating the process using scripts may prove to be quite an undertaking.

(2) don't forget that WWG uses encryption for the passwords. It may do you just as good to use the WWG for the login control on the other part of the website. If you decide to do that there is a software-based way that I do it using Access to import members/passwords, and a script is posted that will do it also.

Here's the thread on that:

(3) See fernan's response.

BTW, how many users/forums/topics do you currently have?
