How can I send an SQL database to someone keeping all database relations etc?

Make a backup of you db and as him to restore it or send him a Script of your db and export your data to a file, send him both, there are a few ways but I guess a backup file would be the most feasable

so i mean is it possible to actually copy and paste the two database files, would that work?

no, its a bit more effort than that.. you have to "restore", then "backup"

You theoretically could copy the mdfs and ldfs then re-attach them through EM or script but the problem is that if the db has users, those links might get dropped as the links are via id's and not names.

Also if you worried about space and need to do it more often consider SQL http://www.sqllitespeed.com/slsevaluation.asp - LiteSpeed  it got me to shrink our master backup (0.8 TB Database) from 320MB to 82 MB and cut the time in to backup in less then half.
