Hi,

I tried to search how to switch from snitz to WebWiz without losing all the post and members I have right now.

Some ppl suggest me to compare the Access file, so that is what I'm going to try now.

One question before I start on it.  the passward in access tured into all the weird number and letters.  If I just copy and past all that..would the pw still work on the new forum for members from my old forum?

Can anyone teach me the correct way to the switching over?!

You would have to convert the passwords so they are encrypted. If not their login would fail and they can request a new one to be emailed

Does Snitz uses encrypted passwords in the database?

If it does you may not be able to transfer your members across at all.

If Snitz does not use encrypted passwords, then I would suggest you convert your forum to a WWG v6.34 forum, then use the Migration Tool to upgrade to v7.01.

Of course, you are still going to need to compare the databases and figure out how to move things across even to a WWG v6.34 forum.

Snitz uses SHA256 while Webwiz uses MD5(?) so the two are not compatible.

However, it is still possible to use your existing snitz database (if there's a will, there's a way!). After importing all the data, you can modify the webwiz code to use the SHA256 function of snitz instead of the webwiz's hash encoding.

I really think someone ought to create a definitive method of converting from snitz to webwiz. Huge market there!

Hmmm---A quick google search only brought up a few items. One of them is this link:

http://www.morningz.com/mz/crystal/webwiz/snitz_member_convert.asp - http://www.morningz.com/mz/crystal/webwiz/snitz_member_convert.asp

Which is a username converter for MS-SQL based forums. It doesn't get the topics though, and I assume from the code is for pre-encypted forum versions of both.
