Hi all,

I used to be in control of a message board on a very busy site, unfortunately I have ben recently made job less... and they have taken on a new developer who is going to scarp everything ive worked for through the last 6 months and start from scratch!! Dont ask why... they have made the most crazy buisiness decission I have ever seen and literally have just thrown about £5k down the drain!!

There plan at the moment is to migrate to another message board solution, but this doesnt seem to be happening very fast and now the board is running off a 55meg Access file!! It still seems to be ok, and the server is more than powerfull enough as it only runs this one site and is a dual 1gig piii with loads of memory and scsi drives. Just CPU usage never goes above 60% on the box either.

Im just wondnering literally how much time is left for it before it dies a death... unfortunately I cant do a lot about it now, im just sitting here watching!! Oh and by the way if id been in control this would be running off SQL Server now so we wouldnt be worrying...

Also are there any signs to look out for or does the Access DB just corupt and die? Heres the addy if any1 interested...

Any comments would be appreciated

Thanks

In theory the access file should just keep growing and as you are on a dedicated server you shouldn't have to much problems. I think access is physically capable of growing to 2Gig in size as I believe this is the max size for a file on a Windows 32 bit system.

I have heard of some Web Wiz Forums with Access databases being over 100Mb in size, but it is probably worth downloading the db once in a while and run a compact and repair on the database to keep the file size down.

Good grief!

Interestingly enough, the forum shows the latest posts and active topics as well....
