This may be a stupid question, but waht is the maximum that the Access version will support?  Let's say the server is a fairly modern setup.  At what point does it start to bog down?

Thanks - Mike

access only supports a few connections, it don't even take about 10 users browsing at the same time to slow it down.....

Is it easy to setup the SQL dB Version of this forum? Does the program setup the tables itself? Or do I need to know sql really well to pull it off?  And how many users can that handle?

Thanks

Rick

ms sql doesn't have a connection limit, and yes there's a file that comes with the sql version that will setup the db for you.

Thank you for your reply.  I have another question. Does anyone else have this problem I’m about to explain.  It seams that when ever I come onto this message board after about 5 minutes or less my system starts to slow down and my mouse and keyboard go into like a delayed mode.  Almost like I remember some of my old systems when I would go on the net and I had to empty my cache mem.  Real strange.  Then I end up having to reboot and it’s ok.

Thank you.

My forum  ( http://www.mtb-sport.nl/forum/ - http://www.mtb-sport.nl/forum/  ) uses msAcces and no problems with 25 people at the same time browsing the forum.

Access can handle 255 connections, but on the web this is increased further as IIS pools the connection.

When a page loads it take only 0.01 of a secound to process as soon as this is done the database connection is dropped anyway, so it isn't really that much of an issue.

The problem with Access is more to do with it being a flate file, so the larger is grows the larger the file that needs to be loaded into memory each time, thuse slowing down the forum, so you need to keep the database size down.

If my forum is running on the access version, how hard would it be to convert to the sql?  Or would I need to start from scratch?

At what point do you know that the Db has reached capacity?

You can upgrade easily with the Upsize Wizard in Access or using DTS Import in SQL Server. There are a few topics here on how to do that. You know when you reached the limit if it becomes just to darn slow.
